Synopsis

Corporal Dane Michael David Freedman served two combat tours with the United States Marine Corps, one in Iraq and one in Afghanistan, where he worked as a machine gunner. A graduate of Camp Hill High School, he enlisted shortly after finishing school and went on to earn the Combat Action Ribbon, the Afghanistan and Iraq Campaign Medals, the NATO Medal for ISAF service, and the Rifle Expert Badge, among other honors. After returning home in 2011, Dane enrolled at Penn State University, determined to build a future beyond his service. But the war did not end when he came home. He carried the weight of PTSD quietly, fighting an internal battle that grew heavier with time. Just weeks after losing his service dog, Lager, who had been by his side through the hardest parts of his recovery, Dane took his own life at 25 years old. Those who knew him remember a Marine who led by example, a friend who lifted others up even in his own difficult moments, and a young man whose warmth left a lasting mark on everyone he met. His story is a reminder that the wounds of war are not always visible, and that the transition home can be its own kind of battlefield. #VeteranSupport #PTSDAwareness #NeverForget #MarineCorps #HonorTheFallen https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1C8eKucGEt/?mibextid=wwXIfr
